Description
We set course towards Barentsburg and the Esmark glacier. With vast opportunities to experience the arctic wildlife, keep your eyes open and look for whales, seals, and a plethora of birds by the bird cliffs. And if we are really lucky, a Polar Bear might be roaming around by the glacier.
The guide on board the ship will talk about the history of Longyearbyen, glaciers, arctic wildlife, and possibly also a “polar tall tale” or two…
We will disembark in Barentsburg, where the Russian guide is waiting to take us on a guided tour of the town. It may be time to explore a little on your own before the boat takes us back to Longyearbyen. In Barentsburg you will find a post office, a souvenir shop as well as a local brewery.
On our way back to Longyearbyen, we will pass by the abandoned Russian coal mining installations in Coles Bay and Grumant, as well as making a slow pass by the bird cliffs.

Lunch is normally served by the glacier, or by the ice edge early in the season.
When Barentsburg is reachable, a 2 hour stop with a guided tour is included.
The length of this cruise is approximately 10 hrs
Please take this in consideration if you are scheduling other activities in the evening.
Tour length depends on weather, wind, wildlifesightings and field drop off/pick up.
